Types of data loss

The first step in planning a recovery strategy is to determine how much data loss, if any, is acceptable.

The following types of data loss can occur:
  • Deletion of the following:
    • Rows, columns, tables, or databases
    • Chunks, storage spaces, or logical logs
  • Data corruption or incorrect data created
  • Hardware failure (such as a disk that contains chunk files fails or a backup tape that wears out)
  • Database server failure
  • Natural disaster
