Backing up data with ontape

Configure backups of the storage spaces for a database server with the ontape utility.

Prerequisite: For this action, the OpenAdmin Tool (OAT) for Informix® requires HCL Informix 11.70.xC2.

The database server provides two utilities for backing up and restoring data: ontape and ON-Bar. You can use OAT to back up storage spaces with ontape. When you configure backups in OAT, the storage spaces are backed up automatically based on the schedule that you set.

To back up data with ontape:

  1. On the OAT menu, click Space Administration > Backup.
  2. Follow the instructions to configure backups by using the Backup wizard.

    If backups are already configured in OAT, the Backup wizard is not displayed. You can click the Configuration tab to review or change the configuration.
