Accessing a database with a nondefault locale

Administer databases with locales other than the default English (en_us), including multibyte database locales.

Prerequisites:
  • The HCL OpenAdmin Tool (OAT) for Informix® requires the UTF-8 locales for all the databases that you access through OAT. To access a database with a locale that is not included in the HCL Informix Client Software Development Kit (Client SDK), install the locale by using the HCL Informix International Language Supplement (ILS). After you install OAT, install ILS on the machine where OAT is installed in the Informix Connect or Client SDK directory. Use ILS to install the additional locale, including the UTF-8 version, in the Informix Connect or Client SDK directory that OAT is using.
  • The HCL Informix Replication Plug-in for OpenAdmin Tool (OAT) requires Informix 11.70.xC4.
  • The database name must be in English characters.

You can use OAT to view and modify data in any database locale that Informix supports. For example, you can access a database that has an Italian or a Japanese locale.

When you view a database with a nondefault locale in the Replication plug-in, select the appropriate database locale by using the Language list and the Locale list.
