Auto Update Statistics

Use this page to view the Auto Update Statistics (AUS) tasks, to refresh the statistics evaluation, and to clean up abnormal AUS runs.

Auto Update Statistics (AUS) identifies tables and indexes that require refreshed optimizer statistics and runs the appropriate UPDATE STATISTICS statements to optimize query performance.

Evaluate Now: Click to run the Auto Update Statistics Evaluation task immediately. The task generates the UPDATE STATISTICS statements for the Auto Update Statistics Refresh task, but it does not run the statements. To view the statements, click the Commands tab.
Cleanup: Click to run the cleanup task if the AUS tasks are producing errors. The cleanup task deletes the internal AUS work tables and reruns the Auto Update Statistics Evaluation task.

The graph displays the evaluation statistics for the database server.

Auto Update Statistics by Database

This list displays the evaluation statistics for the database server by database.

Last Time Checked: The time stamp for the last evaluation of which tables need to have statistics updated.
Database: The databases that have AUS turned on.
Tables Missing Statistics: The number of tables that do not have statistics because the UPDATE STATISTICS statement was never run for the tables.
Large Tables Needing Statistics Refreshed: The number of large tables that need table statistics updated, based on the most recent Auto Update Statistics Evaluation task. A large table is a table that does not fit the definition for a small table.
Small Tables Needing Statistics Refreshed: The number of small tables that need the table statistics updated, based on the most recent Auto Update Statistics Evaluation task. The size of a small table is specified on the Configuration page.
Tables with Refreshed Statistics: The number of tables for which the statistics were refreshed by the Auto Update Statistics Refresh task. The number is reset to zero when the next Auto Update Statistics Evaluation task runs.
