Virtual Processors

Use this page to review information about the virtual processors that are running on the database server and to add and drop virtual processors.

Virtual Processors Total CPU Usage
The chart displays the proportion of the total CPU time that each virtual processor (VP) used. Move the cursor over the chart to display the percentage of CPU usage and the total CPU time in seconds. Click Data to display the total CPU time in seconds by virtual processor.
Virtual Processors - Global Information

The table displays the following information for each virtual processor class. Click a class to view more details.

Class
The type of virtual processor.
VPs
The number of virtual processors in the class.
User CPU Time
The total user time, in seconds, that this class of virtual processors has spent running on the CPU.
System CPU Time
The total system time, in seconds, that this class of virtual processors has spent running on the CPU.
Total CPU Time
The total user time and system time, in seconds, that this class of virtual processors has spent running on the CPU.
Add or Drop a VP

Use this section to add or drop virtual processors. You can add virtual processors of the predefined VP classes that are listed.

Table 1. Virtual-processor classes
VP class Category Purpose
aio Disk I/O Performs nonlogging disk I/O. If KAIO is used, aio virtual processors perform I/O to cooked disk spaces.
cpu Central processing Runs all session threads and some system threads. Runs thread for kernel asynchronous I/O (KAIO) where available. Can run a single poll thread, depending on the configuration.
encrypt Encryption Used by the database server when encryption or decryption functions are called.
idsxmlvp XML publishing Runs XML publishing functions.
jvp Java™ UDR Runs Java UDRs. Contains the Java Virtual Machine (JVM).
lio Disk I/O Writes to the logical-log files (internal class) if they are in a cooked disk space.
msc Miscellaneous Services requests for system calls that require a large stack.
pio Disk I/O Writes to the physical-log file (internal class) if it is in a cooked disk space.
str Stream pipe Performs stream pipe connections.

You can drop virtual processors of the following classes, if the class has more than one virtual processor: cpu, jvp, encrypt, and idsxmlvp.
