Installing the HCL Informix Virtual Appliance in a VMware infrastructure environment
The HCL Informix® Virtual Appliance is supplied in a format suitable for running in a VMware Infrastructure environment.
If your organization is configured with VMware Infrastructure using host machines running VMware ESX, you can import the HCL Informix Virtual Appliance image and run one or more virtual machine instances within your data center.

Downloading the ESX image
The HCL Informix Virtual Appliance is supplied in 32-bit and 64-bit versions and is available for download. Be sure to use the correct version for your application.
To download and extract the HCL Informix Virtual Appliance:
- Download the correct version of the HCL Informix Virtual Appliance to your system.
- Locate the directory in which the image was downloaded.
- Extract the image by running the executable file.
The default location for the HCL Informix Virtual Appliance is a subdirectory immediately below the download directory. You can optionally modify the installation directory.
Installing the VMware infrastructure client
You use the VMware Infrastructure Client to access the VMware Infrastructure remotely. See your system administrator for the location of the installation media or the file to download and for instructions for installing the application.
Importing the HCL Informix Virtual Appliance image
Use the VMware Converter Enterprise plugin to import the HCL Informix Virtual Appliance to the data center. After you import the HCL Informix Virtual Appliance, you can access it remotely using the VMware Infrastructure Client.
To import the HCL Informix Virtual Appliance:
- Start the VMware Infrastructure Client.
- Select .
- Click the Import from file radio button, then click Browse.
- Navigate to the directory in which the HCL Informix Virtual Appliance was extracted.
- Select the file with the .ovf extension and click Open.
- Click Next.
- Verify the virtual appliance details and then click Next.
- Type the name for the HCL Informix Virtual Appliance, select a location, and click Next.
- Select a host or cluster on which to store the HCL Informix Virtual Appliance, then click Next.
- Select the datastore in which to store the HCL Informix Virtual Appliance files, then click Next.
- Verify that the information you selected is correct. If it is, then click Next; otherwise, click the Back and correct the inaccurate information.
Administering the virtual machine
The VMware Infrastructure client is used to manage virtual machines in ways such as powering a virtual machine on and off, suspending a virtual machine, and editing virtual machine settings.
To administer the HCL Informix Virtual Appliance:
- Start the VMware Infrastructure Client application, if necessary.
- Select .
- Navigate to the HCL Informix Virtual Appliance.
- Click the Getting Started tab, if necessary.
- Select one of the following actions:
- Power on the virtual machine
- Power off the virtual machine
- Suspend the virtual machine
- Edit virtual machine settings

Cloning the HCL Informix Virtual Appliance image
You clone the HCL Informix Virtual Appliance to make an identical copy of the image on another virtual machine. You can have several clones of the same virtual image.
To clone the HCL Informix Virtual Appliance:
- Start the VMware Infrastructure Client.
- Select .
- Type the name of the new virtual machine, select a location, and click Next.
- Select a host or cluster on which to store the virtual machine, then click Next.
- Select the datastore in which to store the virtual machine files, then click Next.
- Select Do not customize to continue cloning,
or select Customize using the Customization Wizard.
