Fundamental or atomic data types

All HCL Informix® database servers support the fundamental, or atomic, data types. These types are fundamental because they are the smallest units that you can specify in a SELECT statement. Only HCL Informix supports extended and predefined data types. The predefined data types are in a separate category because they share certain characteristics with extended data types but are provided by the database server.
