IBM Informix Enterprise Hypervisor Edition for Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server

IBM® Informix® Enterprise Hypervisor Edition for Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server contains a virtual system pattern for creating reproducible deployments of IBM Informix Enterprise Edition and a virtual image for creating other virtual system patterns. You can deploy the virtual system pattern included with IBM Informix Enterprise Hypervisor Edition for Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server onto IBM hardware through IBM PureApplication® System or into other virtual environments through IBM Workload Deployer.

IBM Informix Enterprise Hypervisor Edition for Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server contains the following components:
  • The virtual image in an OVA package
  • The Informix pattern, which includes the virtual image and multiple pattern-related files
  • The Demonstration Instance script package that you can add to the Informix part to create a demonstration database instance when the pattern is deployed. The created instance is the same demonstration database instance that is included with the Informix Virtual Appliance.
  • The Customized Sample Instance script package that you can add to the Informix part in a pattern topology to create a basic example database instance when the pattern is deployed. The script package shows how you can create Informix database instances to work with applications.

IBM Informix Enterprise Hypervisor Edition RHEL image

The Informix Enterprise Hypervisor Edition RHEL virtual image includes a guest Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6.3 operating system and product binary files that are required to create a virtual system instance of IBM Informix Enterprise Edition. The virtual image's Informix Server part becomes a virtual machine installed with both the HCL Informix Server and HCL Informix Client utilities.

You must incorporate the virtual image into a virtual system pattern before you can deploy into a cloud environment.

Informix pattern

The Informix pattern is a virtual system that you can deploy repeatedly into a cloud environment. It contains the IBM Informix Enterprise Hypervisor Edition RHEL virtual image and the patterns.json file.

Included script packages

The IBM Informix Enterprise Hypervisor Edition for Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server includes a compressed script package file named customized_sample_instance.tgz for the Customized Sample Instance and a compressed script package file named demonstration_instance.tgz for the Demonstration Instance.

The Demonstration Instance script package creates a demonstration database instance. When added to the virtual-system pattern's Informix Server part by using the pattern editor in IBM Workload Deployer or PureApplication System, the demonstration instance is automatically created and started on the virtual machine when the virtual system pattern is deployed. The created instance is the same demonstration database instance that is included with the Informix Virtual Appliance.

The Customized Sample Instance script package file creates a basic example database instance. When the package is added to the virtual-system pattern's Informix Server part by using IBM Workload Deployer or PureApplication System, it is automatically created and started on the virtual machine when the virtual system pattern is deployed.
